CV and cover letters
What should my CV include?
Carefully consider the role you are applying for and tailor your CV accordingly. It’s important to clearly present all your relevant skills, experience and training.
Find the right balance of information you wish to provide on your application. A single page might not tell us enough about you, but try not to exceed three pages.
Do I need a cover letter?
It’s always a good idea to include a cover letter. It complements your CV and makes your application more specific to the role. The letter should describe specifically how you meet the competencies and requirements for the role. It’s a real opportunity to show why you feel the role would suit you. The information that you have provided in both your CV and cover letter will be used to review your application.
When you submit your application, we'll let you know by an on-screen message that it has safely arrived. If you give us your email address, you’ll receive a further acknowledgement email when your application arrives in the recruiter's inbox. You can log in to your account at any time to check the status of your application.
CV review/phone interview
We will review your application, and check how well your CV and cover letter match the requirements of the job.
If we'd like more information, we might contact you over the phone to discuss. This enables us to assess whether you should be brought in for an interview.
If your application is suitable for the job, we will invite you for a formal phone or face-to-face interview.
On-site interview/assessment process
During your interview, we'll ask you competency-based questions which focus on how you've used your skills, knowledge and experience on specific tasks in past roles. It's not a question of getting the answers right or wrong, but providing relevant examples of your work experience which demonstrate your ability to do the job you've applied for.
Depending on the role we may ask you to complete some additional assessment exercises. These may be case studies, a presentation or exercises. All will be relevant for assessing your skills in the role you have applied for. Our assessment approach will be clearly outlined in your invitation to assessment.
How can I prepare for an interview?
If you’re invited to interview, we'll usually contact you by phone or email first to check your availability. We'll also send you full details by letter or email.
Interview success lies in preparation. On the day, you need to be able to talk comfortably about your career and demonstrate your areas of expertise with live examples. So you might want to prepare a mental list of your key achievements, challenges and successes to date.
In addition – especially if you are new to the healthcare sector – you might want to find out as much as you can about us or the business area you want to join. What will happen at the interview?
The interview is to help us understand:
- what makes you the ideal candidate for the job
- what is it about the role that interests you
- why do you want to work for us
The interview is a chance for us to get to know each other. We’ll assess your abilities, but it’s really a two-way process. We want you to understand our values and what it’s like working here. So, on the day, we will welcome all your questions – have a few of them ready to ask.
We’ll ask you about your skills and experiences. It‘s best to use real-life examples of roles and responsibilities, but your answers don't all have to be work-related. We‘ll also review with you the key performance behaviours relevant to the role. Remember to keep your answers concise and relevant. If you're struggling with a question, don't feel you have to answer immediately. Take your time, think about your response or ask for clarification.
Interviews can be a bit nerve-wracking and we’ll do our best to make you feel comfortable. Remember there are no right or wrong answers. We value honesty, transparency and a positive attitude. So be confident and above all, be yourself.
What happens next?
Your interviewers will get together to decide who is the most suitable candidate for the job. We take hiring very seriously so please be patient while we make our decision. You can also contact us at any time but rest assured that we will keep in touch with you when feedback has been received and decisions made.
If you are selected, we will contact you to make a verbal offer. This will be followed up by a written offer letter, in which we'll explain the next steps including our pre-employment screening process.
Following your successful pre-employment screening, we'll finalise your start date and induction details.
